On April 8, 2024, Seymour will experience a once-in-a-lifetime phenomenon – a total solar eclipse. Being in the path of totality, we will experience just under 4 minutes of total darkness.

This event is expected to bring many people to our community who want to witness the eclipse. Other communities that have experienced a total solar eclipse have said it nearly tripled their population before and during the event. For us, that means upward of 60,000 people.

It presents a unique opportunity for us to welcome many new visitors to Seymour and Jackson County and to give our own residents a fun and memorable way to share in this event.

To celebrate this occasion, the City of Seymour is hosting an Eclipse Celebration in downtown Seymour on Sunday, April 7 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. We are planning quite the experience with educational speakers, interactive activities, an astrophotography exhibit, food booths, arts and crafts vendors and live music.

Some of our partners for this event include Jackson County Visitor Center, Seymour Community Schools, Seymour Parks and Recreation, the Louisville Astronomical Society, the Boys and Girls Club of Seymour, the Seymour Museum Center and WDRB.

We are looking for support from our generous community businesses and organizations to help us with some of the costs of this event in order to make it free to the community. One of the biggest expenses is bringing quality musicians to perform. We have reached out to an up-and-coming musician who is making waves in the country music scene. He is playing on some big stages across the country and even the world and just happens to be a Seymour native. There are a couple of other amazing bands with local ties that we would like to get for this event too.

For your sponsorship, depending on which level you choose, you will get your business or organization recognition on banners at the event and mentions before speakers and musical acts, in advertising and publicity for the event, along with free eclipse viewing glasses, a Seymour Eclipse t-shirt and priority seating for speakers and music acts.
